How to Source Private Label Pet Food from China
A practical buying process for pet brands: define the product, review manufacturing options, approve samples and packaging, and coordinate export requirements.

Start with a product brief
A useful first enquiry describes the product you want to sell and where you intend to sell it. A reference sample or pack helps explain your requirements, but the final specification needs separate written agreement.
- Destination country and intended sales channel
- Cat or dog, life stage and intended dietary role
- Dry or wet format, nutritional targets and ingredient preferences
- Pack size, estimated order quantity with its unit and brand artwork
Separate existing products from development work
Existing-brand supply starts with a catalogue reference. Private-label supply adds brand and label approval; a new formula or format requires a feasibility review. Ask which parts can use an existing specification and which require development.
- Confirm the manufacturer and the company contracting with you
- Record what changes are included in the quotation
- Ask how packaging minimums and development charges affect the order
Approve the sample and label as separate deliverables
A sample confirms the agreed product characteristics; it does not by itself approve packaging or all regulatory claims. Keep the agreed specification, sample reference and artwork version together.
- Review ingredients, analysis, feeding instructions and intended use
- Have destination label requirements reviewed before printing
- Agree inspection scope and acceptance criteria in writing
Plan shipment before the order is ready
Discuss destination eligibility and required documents with your importer or customs broker early. Hengchuan coordinates purchasing and export arrangements with EASA as the manufacturing partner; clearance requirements depend on the product and destination.
- Confirm trade terms, destination and freight responsibilities
- Agree production and shipment dates after approvals
- Check consistency of the final product, labels and shipment documents
